Chita, Mountain municipality in Boyacá Department, Colombia
Chita is a municipality in the Boyacá Department situated at about 3,105 meters elevation within the Eastern Cordillera mountain range. The settlement occupies the high plateau of this Andean mountain chain where cool temperatures persist throughout the year.
The municipality was founded in 1727 and grew from a small settlement into an administrative center. Over three centuries it developed within the Valderrama Province of Boyacá Department.
The municipality maintains traditional agricultural practices adapted to high-altitude cultivation, reflecting the deep connection between local communities and their mountain environment.
The area receives rain throughout the year with heavier precipitation in July. Visitors should bring waterproof clothing and prepare for changeable weather, especially during the rainy seasons.
