The region transformed from its original name Humedales de Casanare to become a proposed national park within Colombia's conservation system.
Local communities maintain connections with the wetlands through traditional resource management practices while supporting environmental preservation efforts.
Visitors can reach the protected area from the city of Yopal, with coordinates at 5°51'48"N latitude and 71°48'54"W longitude.
The area holds the largest concentration of wetlands in eastern Colombia and functions under IUCN category II protection status.
