Monument of Nuestra Señora de Belén, Religious monument on El Tiro hill in Belén, Catamarca, Argentina.
The Monument of Nuestra Señora de Belén is a white stone statue standing on the western hill of the town. The structure rises roughly 20 meters tall and commands the landscape with its simple, upright presence.
The monument was created by sculptor Hidelberg Ferrino and completed in 1982 to honor religious devotion in the region. The construction took three years and required the work and commitment of many community members.
The monument is named after Mary, mother of Jesus, and serves as a place where visitors pause to pray and reflect. People from the region and beyond come here to express their faith and find a moment of stillness.
To reach the monument, visitors must follow a winding path that climbs roughly 1,900 meters (6,200 ft) up the hillside. The route passes several viewing spots along the way that work well for taking breaks.
Building the monument was an extraordinary community effort, with local residents carrying stone, cement, and iron up the mountain using donkeys and manual labor. This hands-on approach turned the project into a symbol of local cooperation and determination.
