Sulphur Springs Water Tower

Sulphur Springs Water Tower is a water storage structure in Tampa featuring Gothic Revival design with tall concrete walls and ornamental crenellations. The building was constructed using industrial techniques and dominates the local skyline with its bold form.

The tower was built in 1927 by architect Grover Poole and provided water supply to the Sulphur Springs Hotel and nearby businesses. Its construction marked an important chapter in Tampa's development as a modern, expanding city.

The tower embodies Tampa's transformation into a winter resort in the 1920s, when entrepreneurs reshaped the surrounding area into a leisure destination. Today, visitors can observe the architectural style of that prosperous era and understand how such structures shaped the city's growth.

The tower can be viewed from the outside and offers visitors insight into early 20th-century water infrastructure systems. The surrounding area is easily accessible, and the structure can be observed from multiple vantage points.

The foundation extends about 45 feet deep into solid rock and was reinforced with railroad rails instead of traditional steel reinforcement bars. This unconventional building method shows the creative engineering solutions used in the 1920s.
