Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is a special-purpose district in Orange and Osceola counties in Florida. It covers roughly twenty-five thousand acres (about thirty-nine square miles) and provides infrastructure and public services for a region defined by entertainment facilities.

The Florida Legislature created this district in May nineteen sixty-seven to govern entertainment lands. Several legislative changes have since redefined its structure and responsibilities.

The district operates four theme parks, two water parks, a sports complex, and numerous entertainment facilities that attract millions of visitors annually.

The administrative center on Hotel Plaza Boulevard in Lake Buena Vista coordinates water supply, waste management, fire protection, and maintenance for the entire zone. Visitors notice the effects of these services through clean facilities and functioning public systems throughout the area.

The area maintains its own environmental science laboratory that monitors water quality and ecological conditions across the region. This monitoring includes several natural and man-made bodies of water as well as wetlands within the district boundaries.
