Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, Water park at Walt Disney World Resort, Florida, United States
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is a water park at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, built around a central hill with a stranded boat and featuring nine slides, a large wave pool and river sections. The site lies amid tropical planted paths, artificial rocks and sandy shore areas that create the impression of a coast after a storm.
The water park opened in June 1989 and became the second facility of its kind within Walt Disney World Resort. The site was developed to expand the existing leisure offering and encourage guests to stay longer at the resort.
The name and layout recall a tropical storm that left visible marks throughout the park, such as a stranded boat perched atop a hill. Guests move through recreated beach settings with palms, sand and jungle plants that evoke a Pacific island.
The park usually opens only during warmer months and operates longer hours in summer, while spring and autumn openings can be irregular. Life jackets are provided at no cost and are available at several stations throughout the park.
The wave pool generates waves every two hours that can reach up to 6 feet (1.8 m) in height, making it one of the largest facilities of its kind in North America. The pool holds over 2.75 million gallons of water and the waves run in a controlled rhythm.
