Crush 'n' Gusher, Water coaster at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, Florida
Crush 'n' Gusher is a water coaster at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon in Orlando, Florida, made up of three separate slides called Banana Blaster, Coconut Crusher, and Pineapple Plunger. Riders travel in small rafts through enclosed and open sections that go both downhill and uphill, propelled by water jets.
The attraction opened in March 2005 as the first water coaster ever built at a Disney water park. The propulsion system that pushes rafts uphill was a new approach in the theme park industry at the time.
The slides are set within the story of an abandoned tropical fruit processing plant, with worn signs about bananas and pineapples decorating the area. Visitors walk past factory-style pipes and old machinery before boarding, which gives the queue its own character.
Riders must be at least 48 inches (122 cm) tall to board, and each raft carries one or two people loaded through a conveyor belt system. Getting there early in the day generally means a shorter wait, as lines tend to grow as the hours pass.
Unlike most water slides, this ride has sections where the raft actually moves uphill against gravity, pushed by powerful jets built into the floor of the channel. This back-and-forth motion between drops and climbs is what sets this ride apart from a standard slide.
