The peak was named by Chester Versteeg and Ralph Chase after their university, following rejection of their initial suggestion for an alternative name. The naming took place in the early 20th century during the surveying and mapping of this mountain region.

The summit can be accessed via George Creek before May 15 or through Shepherd Pass Trail routes. Wright Lakes provides suitable camping locations for visitors who want to spend the night in the area.
