Stardust International Raceway, former race track
Stardust International Raceway was a motorsport racing track in Spring Valley near Las Vegas, Nevada, operating from 1965 to 1971. The facility featured approximately a 3-mile road course with 13 turns, a quarter-mile drag strip, and grandstands with an air-conditioned timing tower.
The track opened in 1965 and was created by Moe Dalitz, a casino operator linked to organized crime and illegal activities. It closed in October 1971 after flooding and financial difficulties, with developers converting the land into residential neighborhoods.
The original track no longer exists today; the land was converted into the residential neighborhood of Spring Valley and can be found near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard. Visitors interested in racing history can explore the area where the original start-finish line once stood or research historical records and photographs.
Bruce McLaren set a notable lap record in 1968 driving a McLaren M8A, completing the circuit in just under ninety seconds. The track was also known for potentially concealing money from illegal sources, reflecting the complicated financial dealings of Las Vegas during that era.
