Xiaohe Cemetery, Bronze Age cemetery in Ruoqiang County, China

The cemetery spans 2,500 square meters on an oval sand dune, featuring 140 wooden posts made from poplar trees rising 2 to 5 meters above ground level.

In 1934, Swedish archaeologist Folke Bergman first excavated twelve tombs at the site, which dates back to approximately 2000 to 1500 BCE.

The cemetery contains 167 excavated tombs with numerous artifacts, including well-preserved mummies representing both Indo-European and East Asian populations.

The burial site maintains its structural integrity due to the desert climate conditions, with each grave containing a boat-shaped wooden coffin covered in cowhide.

Archaeologists discovered a 3,600-year-old cheese remnant in 2024, making it one of the oldest preserved cheese specimens found in human history.
