Imperial Ancestral Temple, Imperial ancestral hall in Donghuamen, China
The Imperial Ancestral Temple features three grand courtyards with multiple halls arranged along a north-south axis, covering 197,000 square meters of land.
The temple construction began in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty, serving as the primary location for imperial ceremonies honoring ancestors throughout Ming and Qing periods.
The Hall for Worship of Ancestors contains dedicated spaces for memorial tablets of emperors and empresses, where traditional ancestral ceremonies took place according to strict protocols.
The temple grounds open daily from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM between April and October, and from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM from November through March.
The main hall stands on a rare three-tiered platform, making it one of only four structures in Beijing with this architectural feature.
