Luoyang Museum, Archaeological museum in Luoyang, China
Luoyang Museum is an archaeological museum in Luoyang, a city in Henan Province in central China. It displays objects from several Chinese dynasties, including bronzes, ceramics, and stone sculptures, arranged across themed halls.
The museum was founded in 1958 at Guanlin and moved in 1973 to its current site near Wangcheng Park. The new location made it possible to house a much larger collection and welcome more visitors.
The display halls hold bronze vessels, ceramic figurines, and Buddhist statues made in workshops from many different periods. Looking closely at these objects, visitors can see how shapes, decorations, and religious imagery shifted from one dynasty to the next.
The museum is located outside Luoyang's city center and is most easily reached by taxi or local bus. It is worth checking in advance whether it closes on certain days of the week.
The main building is shaped like a ding, an ancient Chinese cooking vessel that traditionally stood for power and authority. This same type of object appears inside the collection, so the building's form and the pieces within it seem to speak to each other.
