Tusse de Remuñe

Tusse de Remuñe is a mountain summit in the Pyrenees rising to 3,041 meters at the border between Spain and France. The peak features steep slopes and diverse terrain that span both sides of the frontier.

Mountaineers began documenting their ascents in the 19th century, leaving records at the summit to mark their achievements. This tradition of recording climbs reflects a long history of human exploration on this peak.

The peak carries different names across the region's languages and communities, showing how various groups in the Pyrenees relate to and identify this shared mountain. These varied names reflect the rich cultural blend of the border area.

The climb starts at the Llanos del Hospital parking area in Benasque and follows a route of roughly 16.5 kilometers with about 1,320 meters of elevation gain. The terrain is demanding, so good fitness and mountain experience are needed, especially on steeper sections.

From this summit, hikers can explore several valleys that radiate outward, making it possible to reach as many as twenty neighboring peaks in a single extended trek. These multiple route options make the mountain a hub for longer mountain journeys in the region.
