Christ Church

Christ Church is a stone structure on The Ridge featuring Gothic Revival design elements from the mid-1800s. The building displays typical English church characteristics with pointed arch windows and a prominent steeple that rises above the surrounding area.

The church was designed in 1844 and completed in 1857 to serve the growing European community in the hill station. Its construction reflected the expanding British presence in Shimla during the mid-nineteenth century.

The name Christ Church was chosen to honor the faith that drove its construction during British rule in the Himalayas. The interior reflects the blend of Christian tradition with the colonial community that gathered here for worship.

The church sits on The Ridge, Shimla's main public square, making it easy to find and reach on foot. Visitors should dress respectfully and maintain quiet during services if they wish to enter while worship is taking place.

Inside the church stands a large pipe organ made by Morgan and Smith of Brighton, one of the most notable instruments of its kind in the region. The organ was installed in the late 1800s and remains in use for services and special occasions.
