Mir Alam Tank, Artificial lake in Hyderabad, India
Mir Alam Tank is an artificial water reservoir in Hyderabad covering approximately 260 acres. The structure features 21 semicircular arched dams made of masonry positioned along its perimeter near the Nehru Zoological Park.
This reservoir was completed in 1806 under Prime Minister Mir Alam's direction during the reign of Asaf Jah III. The French engineer Michel Joachim Marie Raymond played a key role in designing this water storage system.
The inscription on the tank carries a religious message reflecting how water held spiritual importance in local beliefs. This religious text carved into the structure shows how faith was woven into practical engineering projects.
The lake can be reached via Rajendranagar or Falaknuma bus depots and the Dabirpura Multi-Modal Transport Station. The best time to visit is during cooler months when walking around the perimeter is more pleasant.
The 21 connected arched structures were designed by French engineer Michel Joachim Marie Raymond and continue to function after more than 200 years. This long-lasting durability shows the quality of the original construction that has survived changing seasons through generations.
