Lake Nasser, Man-made reservoir between southern Egypt and northern Sudan
Lake Nasser extends 291 kilometers in length with an average width of 8.9 kilometers, storing 168 billion cubic meters of Nile water.
The construction of the Aswan High Dam in 1964 led to the creation of this reservoir, requiring the relocation of numerous archaeological monuments.
The formation of Lake Nasser resulted in the displacement of Nubian communities from their ancestral lands, altering the social fabric of the region.
The reservoir generates hydroelectric power through the Aswan Dam and provides irrigation water to more than 800,000 acres of agricultural land.
The lake contains 52 fish species and maintains two different names: Lake Nasser in Egypt and Lake Nubia in Sudan.
