Zakarpattia Oblast

The Transcarpathia Oblast spans 12,777 square kilometers at an elevation of 579 meters, containing dense forests and mountain ranges along the Carpathian slopes.

From the 10th century until 1918, this territory belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary before joining Czechoslovakia and later becoming part of Soviet Ukraine in 1946.

The region contains a mix of Ukrainian, Hungarian, Romanian, and Slovak communities, each maintaining their languages, traditions, and religious practices.

The oblast connects Ukraine with four European Union countries through its borders with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania, facilitating international trade.

The region maintains eleven distinct dialects of Ukrainian language, influenced by centuries of isolation behind the Carpathian mountain range.
