Saqqara

The burial grounds stretch across 7 kilometers by 1.5 kilometers, containing multiple pyramids, underground galleries, and numerous stone-built tombs from different periods.

The Step Pyramid of Djoser, constructed during the Third Dynasty around 2650 BCE, represents the first complete stone building complex in recorded history.

The Serapeum, a network of underground passages, housed the mummified remains of sacred Apis Bulls, considered physical manifestations of the god Ptah.

The necropolis contains eight separate pyramid structures, numerous mastaba tombs, and the Imhotep Museum, which displays artifacts from archaeological excavations.

Archaeological teams discovered eight million animal mummies in the dog catacombs, reflecting ancient Egyptian practices of animal preservation and religious devotion.
