The distillery was established in 1793 and operates from a building that previously served as a merchant's house. The location held importance as a gathering place between 1689 and 1705 before becoming a gin producer.

The building reflects Plymouth's maritime heritage, as the gin was historically included in the supplies of Royal Navy vessels. Visitors can sense how this local product connected to the city's seafaring past.

Visitors can join guided tours through the facility and explore the production process firsthand. Tasting various gin cocktails at the onsite bar is included in the experience.

The Royal Navy included Plymouth Gin in the commissioning kits of new ships, with two bottles at 57% alcohol in each set. This practice reflects how deeply the brand was connected to British seafaring.
