Dharampura Haveli is a historic stone building in Delhi dating from the 1800s and built in traditional Indian architecture. The house features thick walls, ornate balconies, intricate wooden details and carved Hindu goddesses, along with traditional windows and doors that preserve its original character.
The haveli was built in 1887 and served as a private home for wealthy families before falling into disrepair over decades and suffering structural damage. An extensive restoration lasting nearly six years returned the building to its original condition and transformed it into a working hotel.
The name Dharampura connects to the religious and social roots of the neighborhood. The ornate carvings and decorated windows throughout the building reflect the craftsmanship of earlier generations and remain visible in every detail today.
The haveli is located in Kotwali Tehsil next to the bustling Chandni Chowk market and is easy to reach from main streets, yet quiet inside. Visitors should expect narrow lanes and historic stairs, and wear comfortable shoes to explore the winding rooms and central courtyard.
The haveli's roof partially collapsed during its decay, making restoration significantly harder and requiring traditional techniques combined with modern knowledge. Craftspeople carefully documented every step and preserved old artifacts to ensure the building would last for future generations.
