Al Taif

Al Taif sits in western Saudi Arabia at roughly 1,900 meters elevation on a mountainous tableland and contains numerous parks and gardens throughout. The city spreads across this plateau with various green spaces and open areas for visitors.

The area was home to the Banu Thaqif tribe until the early 7th century, when Muhammad visited the region during Islamic expansion. This period marked an important turning point for the area and its role in regional history.

The traditional Souk Okaz market preserves ancient trading practices and showcases regional products and crafts that visitors and locals still use today. The activity there reflects how people have gathered to exchange goods for generations.

A modern highway system links Al Taif to Mecca and Jeddah, while the regional airport offers additional travel options. Good transportation connections make it easy to arrive from outside areas or explore surrounding destinations.

The Akramah Dam, completed in 1956, supports agricultural production of roses, grapes, pomegranates, and figs in the region. This irrigation facility enabled the growth of these crops and shapes the agricultural landscape today.
