Shirak Province

Shirak Province covers northwestern Armenia with varied terrain ranging from semi-desert areas to mountain meadows. The landscape shows reddish-brown tones, especially during summer months.

The Kamsarakan family ruled this region from the 3rd to 8th centuries as part of the ancient Shirak canton. The territory later came under different imperial influences.

The local population speaks its own dialect, linking Western Armenian language traditions with how people communicate today.

The international airport in Gyumri offers flights to various destinations, while the railway station provides connections to other major cities. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions depending on the season.

Lake Arpi is the only significant water body in the province and stands protected as a national park. This lake in the northwestern corner draws bird watchers from different places.
