Machiguenga Communal Reserve

The Machiguenga Communal Reserve spans across tropical rainforests and river systems in the Cusco Region, providing habitat for numerous endemic species.

The protected area received official designation in 2003 through SERNANP to safeguard both natural resources and indigenous territories in the Amazon basin.

The Machiguenga people maintain traditional practices of fishing, hunting, and agriculture within the reserve, sustaining their centuries-old connection to the land.

Visitors need to obtain permits from local authorities and arrange guided tours through approved organizations to access the protected areas of the reserve.

The reserve combines ecological monitoring programs with indigenous knowledge systems, creating an integrated approach to environmental conservation.
