Chepén Province

Chepén Province is an administrative region in La Libertad comprising three districts, with Chepén city serving as the administrative center. The province covers a significant area in northern Peru and functions as the main hub for surrounding settlements.

The province was officially established on September 8, 1984, as part of the administrative reorganization of La Libertad. This creation reflected efforts to better organize local governance and support development in the northern territories.

The city of Chepén hosts a Poetry Festival that draws writers and poets from surrounding areas to celebrate literary work. This annual gathering shapes how locals and visitors experience the place's connection to words and storytelling.

The province is well-connected by road to major regional cities, making travel between locations straightforward. Chepén city provides essential services such as markets, medical facilities, and accommodations for visitors and residents.

The archaeological site of San José de Moro within the province contains remains from pre-Hispanic civilizations. This location offers tangible evidence of ancient cultures that thrived in the region long before European contact.
