Tamborine Mountain Road

This road stretches approximately 24 kilometers through the Scenic Rim, linking the Albert River Valley to Tamborine Village via winding forest paths. It features engineered elements like large S-bends and stone retaining walls designed to handle steep terrain and protect against water erosion.

Construction started in 1921 under the Main Roads Board, making it one of Queensland's earliest major roads. The road was bitumen-sealed in 1925, marking a significant milestone in regional infrastructure development.

The upper section bears the name Geissmann Drive since 1982, honoring a family that shaped the local community by establishing their boarding house in 1898.

The road is quite steep and winding, so careful driving and reliable brakes are important. Wet conditions after rain can make it challenging, so it is best experienced during fair weather.

Original infrastructure from the 1920s remains visible along the entire route, including culverts, road cuttings, and rock embankments. These early engineering solutions show how builders adapted construction techniques to the challenging mountainous landscape.
