Mamberamo Raya Regency

Mamberamo Raya is a regency in Papua with diverse landscapes of rivers, forests, and mountain ranges. The territory spans nine administrative districts, with Burmeso functioning as the main administrative center.

This regency was established in 2007 by splitting territories from neighboring administrative areas. The reorganization created a new independent administrative district in the province.

Multiple indigenous languages shape how people in this region communicate and connect with one another. You will hear different tongues spoken in villages and markets, reflecting the diversity of local communities.

The area is best reached through local routes from Burmeso, as it remains quite remote. Visitors should be prepared for basic conditions given the limited infrastructure across the territory.

Despite covering the largest area of any regency in the province, it remains sparsely populated. This low population density makes it one of the least densely settled administrative areas in the region.
