Mamberamo Raya Regency

Mamberamo Raya Regency spans across 23,813 square kilometers of diverse landscapes, including rivers, forests, and mountain ranges reaching elevations of 2,200 meters.

The Indonesian government established Mamberamo Raya Regency on March 15, 2007, by dividing territories from Sarmi Regency and Waropen Regency to form a new administrative region.

The region preserves multiple indigenous languages, including Lakes Plain languages, Burmeso language, Lower Mamberamo languages, and East Geelvink Bay languages within its communities.

The population of 38,636 residents spreads across nine administrative districts, with the town of Burmeso serving as the central governmental hub for the region.

Despite being the largest regency in Papua province by land area, Mamberamo Raya maintains a relatively small population density, with approximately 1.6 people per square kilometer.
