America Sings, Musical theater attraction in Disneyland, United States
America Sings was a musical theater attraction inside Disneyland's Carousel Theater, where animated animal figures performed American songs. The circular building contained six identical auditoriums that rotated to present visitors with different stage scenes and changing settings.
The attraction opened in June 1974, replacing the General Electric Carousel of Progress inside the same theater. It closed in April 1988 after fourteen years of operation.
Sam the Eagle and Ollie the Owl guided visitors through four musical acts representing different periods of American music, from Southern swamps to modern city streets. Each act presented animated animal figures performing in period settings that embodied the nation's musical heritage.
The two-story building used only the lower floor for performances, while six theater sections rotated simultaneously. Each visitor experienced all four musical segments during one complete rotation of the system.
After closure, numerous Audio-Animatronic animals from this show found new roles in other park attractions. Many of these figures were later integrated into Splash Mountain and the Star Tours queue area.
