Rocket Rods, Amusement ride in Tomorrowland, Disneyland, Anaheim, United States
Rocket Rods was a high-speed attraction in Tomorrowland that carried passengers on an elevated track system through the entire area, completing the circuit in three minutes. Each vehicle held five people seated in a single row one behind another.
The attraction opened in May 1998 as part of the redesign of Tomorrowland and replaced the PeopleMover, which had previously run on the same route. Technical problems led to permanent closure in September 2000.
The queue showed films about transportation development that Walt Disney had originally introduced, and presented technical drawings of older park attractions. Visitors saw how the vision of future mobility changed over the decades.
The vehicles launched from the former CircleVision 360° theater building and then accelerated onto the elevated track network that stretched across all of Tomorrowland. Riders experienced sudden acceleration and fast turns along the entire route.
The ride was accompanied by electronic music arrangements by Steve Bartek, including a version of Born to Be Wild and a specially composed title song. This music emphasized the speed rush of the attraction.
