Autopia, Race track attraction at Disneyland Park, Hong Kong
Autopia was a ride at Hong Kong Disneyland where visitors steered small cars along a fixed track. The route passed through artificial landscapes with alien scenery and jungle elements.
The ride opened in summer 2006 as part of the original park and closed on June 11, 2016. It was later replaced by a Marvel-themed attraction.
The name comes from a Greek concept for a perfect place, combined with the idea of automobiles. Riders could test their steering skills in a themed setting without any risk.
Rails on both sides kept vehicles on course and allowed safe steering. Drivers could operate the gas pedal and steering wheel freely, without any risk of collision.
The cars ran entirely on electric power, which was still rare in theme parks in 2006. This technology allowed quieter operation and fewer emissions during the ride.
