Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Submarine attraction in Tomorrowland, Disneyland Park, United States.
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is a ride aboard a mock submarine in the Tomorrowland section of the park in California, where guests travel through a simulated underwater world populated by characters from the film. The lagoon contains sunken temple ruins, artificial coral formations, and illuminated tanks where animated fish and sea creatures appear through projection technology.
The installation opened in 2007 on the foundations of the original Submarine Voyage from 1959, which operated until 1998. Pixar characters and a new storyline replaced the former scenery while the vehicles received substantial modifications to support the updated presentation.
Each vessel carries a name referencing characters or marine concepts from the animated story, which passengers notice during boarding. Portholes frame scenes where projections blend with physical scenery, creating the experience of traveling through a coral reef with familiar animated figures.
Boarding takes place from a floating dock where staff directs guests into seats positioned at small windows. Children should be tall enough to look through the windows, as the view of the scenes may otherwise be limited.
The tanks are shallow enough that technicians can wade through them during maintenance, even though passengers perceive a much deeper descent. Oxygen is continuously pumped in during the ride to maintain ventilation inside the sealed cabins.
