Centro Académico y Cultural San Pablo, Cultural center in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico.
Centro Académico y Cultural San Pablo is a cultural center housed in a restored Dominican monastery with exhibition spaces, a research library, and performance areas. The facility uses the historic architecture to support contemporary academic and artistic activities.
The building began as a 16th-century Dominican convent and underwent extensive restoration in 2012 by architects Mauricio Rocha and Gabriela Carrillo. This restoration transformed the site into a modern academic and cultural venue.
The center maintains specialized collections of anthropological archives and indigenous music recordings that support research into Oaxacan cultural heritage. Visitors can explore these materials and learn more about the musical and cultural traditions of the region.
The center sits one block from the main square, positioned between Independencia and Hidalgo streets. Regular exhibitions, concerts, workshops, and academic conferences take place throughout the year.
The restoration incorporated a modern metal structure on the east side, creating additional climate-controlled spaces across multiple levels. This contemporary addition creates an interesting contrast with the monastery's historic fabric.
