Tampa Indian Reservation, Seminole reservation in Hillsborough County, United States
The Tampa Indian Reservation is a Seminole tribal land in Hillsborough County, Florida, covering about 9 acres (3.6 hectares) in an urban setting. The land hosts several community facilities, most notably the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tampa, which sits at the heart of the reservation.
In 1980, Ruby Tiger Osceola and her family moved to this site from Bradenton at the direction of Chief James E. Billie, founding the reservation. That relocation marked the start of an organized Seminole presence in Tampa.
The Seminole community keeps the Mikasuki language alive, and tribal members use it alongside English in daily life. Visitors may hear it spoken around the reservation, where it remains a living part of everyday interaction.
The reservation sits in the middle of Tampa and is easy to reach by car, with parking available around the hotel and casino complex. It is worth checking in advance which areas are open to the general public before you visit.
Despite sitting inside a major city, the reservation operates as sovereign tribal land and is not subject to the city regulations of Tampa. This makes it one of the few tribally governed enclaves found within a large American urban area.
