Maritime Hall, Concert hall in South of Market, San Francisco, US
Maritime Hall was a concert venue in the South of Market neighborhood with industrial-style open ceilings and spacious floor layouts. The space could hold up to 3,000 people and reflected the raw aesthetic typical of the area's music venues.
The venue opened in 1995 and operated for six years under musician Boots Hughston at 450 Harrison Street. During this time it produced more than 700 shows before closing as the city's economy shifted.
The venue attracted artists working in psychedelic and street art traditions who created distinctive posters and visuals for performances. These artistic choices shaped how visitors experienced the space alongside the music.
The venue used an innovative barcode ticketing system and offered service charge-free ticket outlets in multiple locations. This approach made it easier for guests to purchase tickets without paying additional fees.
The venue recorded nearly every performance professionally and later released these recordings under the 'Live from Maritime Hall' label. This practice created an archive of thousands of musical moments from its years of operation.
