Sespe Hot Springs, Natural hot springs in Ventura County, United States.
Sespe Hot Springs is a system of thermal springs in Ventura County that emerges from broken shale and decomposed granite to form soaking pools along Sespe Creek. The water reaches temperatures around 90 degrees Celsius (194 degrees Fahrenheit) and gradually mixes with cooler creek water as it flows downstream.
As early as 1915, measurements recorded water emerging at temperatures around 88 degrees Celsius, showing that this geothermal activity has persisted for over a century. The consistent heat source in this mountainous region has remained stable through time.
The hot springs held deep meaning for the Chumash people who used these warm waters in their daily and ceremonial practices long before modern visitors arrived. Today the site remains a place where people gather to experience the landscape as it was traditionally valued.
Reaching the springs requires hiking between 12 kilometers and 27 kilometers depending on which trail you choose, all through mountain terrain that demands physical stamina. Plan for a full day or overnight trip and bring plenty of water, as facilities are not available along the routes.
The waters form a natural cascade system where temperature drops gradually as hot mineral water blends with cooler creek flow. This creates a series of soaking pools at different temperatures that visitors can choose based on their comfort level.
