Three prospectors discovered this meteorite in March 1976 in the Old Woman Mountains, leading to legal disputes between them and the Smithsonian Institution.

The main portion of the meteorite remains on display at the Desert Discovery Center in Barstow, while a 177-pound slice is exhibited at UCLA.
