The Memorial Hall spans 120,000 square meters, featuring exhibition spaces, memorial grounds, and a peace park dedicated to the Nanjing Massacre victims.
The museum opened on August 15, 1985, forty years after China's victory in World War II, with its name calligraphed by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping.
The memorial contains 193,000 historical artifacts and documents that present evidence of the events that occurred in Nanjing from December 1937 to January 1938.
Located at 418 Shuiximen Street in Nanjing's Jianye District, the museum offers free admission and receives over 8 million visitors annually.
The architectural design incorporates a Peace Ship structure and includes the Crying Soul sculpture in the assembly square for annual December 13 commemorations.
