Nanda Devi National Park

Located at elevations above 3500 meters, Nanda Devi National Park features glacial basins, steep valleys, and peaks reaching heights of 7500 meters.

The park remained unexplored until 1934 when mountaineers Eric Shipton and H.W. Tilman first entered the inner sanctuary through the Rishi Ganga gorge.

The mountain peaks within the park hold religious significance for local communities who maintain traditional practices connected to the natural environment.

Access to the park requires special permits, and the visiting season extends from May to October when weather conditions allow safe exploration.

During the Cold War, a joint CIA-Indian operation attempted to install a nuclear-powered listening device on Nanda Devi to monitor Chinese activities.
