East Azarbaijan Province

East Azerbaijan Province encompasses numerous counties with varied landscapes, from mountains to plains, stretching across 45,650 square kilometers of Iranian territory.

The region gained prominence during the Mongol era when Tabriz, its capital, became the administrative center under Il-Khan Mahmud Ghazan from 1295 to 1304.

The bazaars of East Azerbaijan Province, particularly in Tabriz, maintain traditional Iranian commerce practices with specialized sections for carpets, spices, and handicrafts.

The province connects to Armenia through the Jolfa border crossing, offering a strategic point for international trade and transportation between Iran and the Caucasus region.

The thermal springs scattered throughout the province release heated water containing minerals, creating natural pools used since ancient Persian times.
