Aoi-ku

Aoi-ku extends across northern Shizuoka city, bordered by Suruga-ku in the south and Shimizu-ku in the southeast, reaching the borders of Nagano and Yamanashi prefectures.

The establishment of Aoi-ku occurred on April 1, 2003, when Shizuoka received designation as a government ordinance city, incorporating areas north of the Tokaido Main Line.

The ward contains both Shizuoka city and prefectural administration offices, forming the governmental center where local decisions and policies are implemented.

With a population of 249,451 residents spread across 1,411 square kilometers, Aoi-ku provides essential services through an extensive network of public transportation and facilities.

Aoi-ku holds the distinction of being the geographically largest ward in Japan, featuring varied landscapes from urban centers to mountainous regions.
