Colorful pond, Lake in Jiuzhaigou Valley, China.

The Five-Color Pond contains multiple shades of blue and green due to calcium carbonate deposits and different species of algae in the water.

The lake became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 when Jiuzhaigou Valley received international recognition for its natural features.

Local Tibetan folklore tells of Goddess Semo washing her hair in the pond while God Dage provided fresh water, creating the multiple colors.

Located at an elevation of 2,995 meters, the lake extends across 5,645 square meters and reaches depths of 6.6 meters at its deepest point.

The calcium deposits at the bottom of the lake form natural barriers that create separate sections, each displaying different mineral concentrations and colors.
