Železné hory Protected Landscape Area, Protected landscape area in Kraj Vysočina, Czech Republic.
The Eisengebirge Protected Landscape Park is a conservation area in eastern Bohemia containing forests, meadows, valleys, and farmland across its territory. Within it lie 26 specially protected zones that safeguard different habitats and natural features.
The government established this protected area in 1991 to preserve natural habitats in the Chrudim region and maintain the landscape's ecological balance. This action reflected the broader effort to protect nature after the country's political transformation.
Visitors walk the many trails that connect traditional villages and open meadows throughout the region. Local ways of farming and living in the landscape remain visible in how the forests and fields are arranged.
The park is best explored on foot, with marked trails leading through different zones and landscapes. Maps and information are available to help visitors plan their walks through the various areas.
The Eisengebirge sits atop a geological crossroads where different European rock units converge in a small area, creating unusual soil conditions. This geological mix allows ecosystems that would normally be far apart to grow side by side.
