Garden Grove is a densely populated city in northern Orange County, California, covering roughly 47 square kilometers (18 square miles). The city boundary forms a distinctive panhandle shape to the east, linking several surrounding communities.
The arrival of the Pacific Electric Railroad in 1905 turned this formerly agricultural area into a growing residential zone. After World War II, many new residents settled here, and the city was officially incorporated in 1956.
More than 170,000 people from many backgrounds live in this part of Orange County, with families from Asia and Latin America running shops, restaurants, and community centers. Signs along main roads often appear in several languages, and markets sell food from different traditions.
The Garden Grove Freeway offers quick access to neighboring cities, while local roads lead to shopping areas, schools, and parks. Most places are easiest to reach by car, and parking is usually available.
The annual Strawberry Festival has honored the area's farming roots since 1958, drawing thousands of visitors each year. A small strawberry stand at the festival grounds still sells fresh fruit and homemade jam.
