Disneyland Railroad, Heritage railway in Disneyland Park, Anaheim, United States
Disneyland Railroad is a heritage railway in Disneyland Park, Anaheim, California, United States, that runs a continuous loop of roughly two kilometers around the entire park. Real steam locomotives pull traditional passenger carriages through all the themed lands, and the route passes through landscape sections and tunnels that offer glimpses into different areas of the park.
The railway opened on July 17, 1955, and was among the first attractions on the day the park launched. The original train was named after the founder, and additional locomotives joined over time, some of them acquired from earlier industrial railways.
Each train carries the name of a figure connected to the park's early years, and guests hear the recognizable whistle as the engines pass through different zones. Riders sit in open carriages that give them a clear view of plants and buildings while the train rolls slowly through tunnels and beneath hillsides.
Four stations at different points in the park allow boarding and exiting throughout operating hours, so the railway works both as a round trip and as a way to move between lands. The carriages are open-sided, so sun protection and a seat near the edge are helpful for better views.
Five steam engines are in service, with three of them built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in the early decades of the 20th century and specially adapted for the park. The other two were constructed internally at WED Enterprises and added to the fleet for daily operations.
