MGM Grand Garden Arena, Indoor arena in Las Vegas Strip, Nevada
The MGM Grand Garden Arena is a multi-purpose hall on the Las Vegas Strip with a circular floor plan and several tiers of seating that rise toward the roof of the building. The stage can be positioned at different points within the space, creating varied sightlines and distances for attendees.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena opened on December 31, 1993, with a concert by Barbra Streisand, followed by shows from Luther Vandross, Anita Mui and Janet Jackson. It was one of the main sports arenas in the Las Vegas Valley alongside the Thomas & Mack Center and Mandalay Bay Events Center until the MGM co-owned T-Mobile Arena opened in 2016.
The arena's name comes from the MGM Grand resort that surrounds it. Its calendar mixes championship boxing, concerts and televised award shows: it hosted the Latin Grammy Awards six times between 2014 and 2021 and the Academy of Country Music Awards from 2006 to 2019, except 2015 and 2017. The 64th Grammy Awards took place here on April 3, 2022, the first time the ceremony was held in Las Vegas.
The hall is part of a large hotel complex and can be accessed through several entrances that lead to different areas inside. The seating arrangement changes depending on the type of event, so it helps to check in advance which entrance and section you need.
A series of boxing matches held in this building reached a global audience and gave the site a reputation as a location for major sporting events. The final public appearance of a well-known musician before a tragic incident in 1996 also took place here.
