Elis Regional Unit, Regional administrative unit in West Greece Region, Greece.
The Elis Regional Unit is an administrative area on the western Peloponnese consisting of seven municipalities. It covers roughly 2,600 square kilometers and includes major centers such as ancient Olympia and the city of Pyrgos.
The area was reorganized in 2011 through the Kallikratis reform, replacing the previous prefecture system. The new boundaries largely match the historical territories recognized since ancient times.
Pyrgos serves as the regional hub where government offices, commerce, and local services gather. Daily life here is shaped by deep ties to farming, which influences the economic and social rhythms across the area.
The area is accessible by road and rail connections linking Pyrgos, Olympia, and other settlements. Visitors should note that getting around requires traveling some distance, best managed by car.
The northern part is known for extensive tomato production and hosts major processing facilities in places like Savalia and Gastouni. This agricultural specialization continues to shape the local economy and landscape.
