Shizuoka Prefecture, Prefecture in central Honshu, Japan

Shizuoka Prefecture extends along the Pacific coast between Tokyo and Nagoya, encompassing Mount Fuji's southern slopes and the entire Izu Peninsula.

The region gained prefecture status in 1871, inheriting territories from the former Tōtōmi, Suruga, and Izu provinces under the Meiji government reorganization.

The prefecture produces 40% of Japan's green tea output, with vast plantations covering the hills around Makinohara and traditional processing methods passed through generations.

The Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train connects the prefecture's main cities of Atami, Shizuoka, and Hamamatsu with Tokyo and Osaka through multiple daily services.

Three major motorcycle manufacturers - Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha - established their first factories in Shizuoka Prefecture, creating a global vehicle production center.
