Yunlin County, Administrative division in western Taiwan
Yunlin County is an administrative division in western Taiwan that stretches from the Taiwan Strait coastline inland toward mountainous terrain and contains twenty townships. Douliu functions as the capital and serves as the center for regional government offices.
The territory became a separate administrative region in 1887 during the Qing Dynasty when Taiwan Prefecture divided its jurisdiction into four distinct counties. This reorganization followed shifts in how the island managed its territorial governance.
The county maintains numerous traditional temples and holds the distinction of being the central location for Taiwanese puppet theater performances and production.
Much of the land supports farming, with Gukeng Township growing coffee and coastal communities harvesting seafood. Visitors can explore fields and fishing zones along the different coastal and inland routes.
The Xiluo Bridge links the region to neighboring Changhua across the Zhoushui River through a steel construction from 1953 measuring nearly two kilometers. This bridge ranked among the longest of its kind in East Asia when completed.
