Bukit Bintang, Entertainment district in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Bukit Bintang is an entertainment neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur between Raja Chulan Road and Pudu Road with numerous shopping centers and food streets. The streets are brightly lit at night and connect several multi-story department stores to each other.
The area developed from the 1980s onward from a former tin settlement into a commercial and entertainment center. Larger retail buildings and infrastructure projects shaped the transformation of the neighborhood in the following decades.
Street vendors along Jalan Alor prepare regional dishes over open flames and draw guests well into the early morning hours. The neighborhood shows a cross-section of urban life with Chinese characters on storefronts and multilingual signs throughout the walkways.
Several KL Monorail and MRT stations provide access to the different parts of the neighborhood and the connected shopping centers. Covered pedestrian bridges link many buildings and offer protection from rain or intense sun.
A pedestrian crossing in the style of Shibuya was installed in 2021 at the main junction near a McDonald's and allows crossing from multiple directions at once. The neighborhood is named after the Malay term for the brightest star in the sky.
