Ghor Province

Ghor is a province in central Afghanistan characterized by high mountain terrain shaped by numerous river valleys. The landscape consists of steep ridges, deep gorges, and elevated plateaus that define the region's dramatic geography.

The region served as an important center during the medieval period under the Ghurid Dynasty, which left significant architectural works throughout the area. This era shaped the cultural and political development of the region for centuries to come.

The population includes three main ethnic groups: Tajiks representing 58 percent, Hazara making up 39 percent, and Pashtuns comprising 3 percent.

Multiple rivers, including Morghab, Hirayrud, and Farahrud, flow through the province, creating deep valleys between the mountain ranges.
