Ghor Province

The mountainous province encompasses 34,479 square kilometers of terrain at elevations reaching 2,831 meters in the western Hindu Kush mountains.

The region gained prominence during the 12th century when the Ghurid Dynasty constructed the Minaret of Jam, which stands 65 meters tall.

The population includes three main ethnic groups: Tajiks representing 58 percent, Hazara making up 39 percent, and Pashtuns comprising 3 percent.

The province maintains 293 primary schools, 58 secondary schools, and 31 high schools, though the literacy rate remains at 25 percent.

Multiple rivers, including Morghab, Hirayrud, and Farahrud, flow through the province, creating deep valleys between the mountain ranges.
